Adidas Adizero f50 football boots – £200

The Adidas Adizero f50s are awesome – Fact! Dubbed the the world’s first football boots with a brain due to their in-built miCoach technology ,a speed sensor chip which enables both professional and amateur footballers to analyse their performance on the pitch including such information as personal speed, distance, number of sprints and work rate during a game. Not only can players analyse their own stats but they can compare themselves to their team mates, friends and even professional players, including Leo Messi, Gareth Bale and Ashley Young and by using the free Micoach app can build their own online profile with 3d Avatar which will store all their information and even recommend training to improve your game.

The Adidas MiCoach speed sensor fits into the sole of the boot and stores all your performance data. They also come with everything you need to upload your stats to your smartphone or computer, so that you can view and analyze your data before sharing the results on twitter, facebook or youtube.

As well as including all the MiCoach capabilities above, the Adidas f50 boots are one of the lightest boots in the world(weighing only 165 grams) and features SprintWeb technology, providing improved stability and support across the midfoot and a Traxion 2.0 stud formation for fantastic speed.
iLuv Artstation Pro Dock – £129.99

The iLuv Artstation Pro transforms your iPad or Samsung Galaxy tablet into a home entertainment centre, and so is perfect for any Valentine who is addicted to their tablet device. In fact it is the only device available for Samsung Galaxy owners, as it is the first docking station for the Samsung tablet in the world. Whether you want to watch movies or listen to music in high quality stereo sound, or even read news or recipes, the Artstation Pro enables you to use your tablet to the full, while charging it at the same time.

The Artstation Pro has a fully rotational arm, allowing users to switch between portrait and landscape with ease, and also tilt the screen for the best viewing angle. Its enhanced jAura sound technology produces rich and dynamic sound quality. And if you pair the device with a Bluetooth keyboard, you can transform it into a desktop computer – brilliant! :)

Philips Reaura Laser Skin Rejuvenation- £799

For those who love new developments in beauty technology we give you the Philips Reaura Laser Skin Rejuvanation the UK’s first laser for home use.

It reduces fine lines and wrinkles is great for general skin rejuvenation and evens out an uneven complexion by stimulating your skins own natural renewal process and encouraging the production of collagen.

At £800 it’s not cheap but is considerably more cost effective than a course of treatments with a medical professional or dermatologist, (which cost about £1300 per session) has less down time, (the redness will subside over night and can be concealed with make up) and can be done in the privacy of your own home  - it’s all incredibly safe and comes with a step by step DVD to guide you through the process, which is really simple and requires an application of gel to the skin to help the laser glide easily and safely as well as a 24 hour lock so you can’t overuse the laser – a great feature in our opinion!

It’s been developed with Fraxel, one of the biggest professional laser treatment brands, but uses a lower light intensity to make it safe for regular home use. It is designed to be used twice a week for eight weeks, and in an independent clinical trial 81% of users experienced a reduction in fine lines and 83% benefitted from a more even skin tone.

Fraxel laser technology stimulates the skin’s natural rejuvenation process with microscopic laser beams, which pass through the upper layers of skin to trigger the skin’s natural cell renewal process.

It’s not painful but rather uncomfortable whilst the laser is in contact with your skin – a bit like a small nettle sting – but this will quickly go by applying the after care cream to your skin.

We were only able to try out the Reaura once so that we could describe the sensation and ease of use, which admittedly isn’t enough to give a full analysis of results but we’ve heard great things and will definitely keep our eye out for more reports on this as we think it’s a fab idea.

Roberts Vintage Revival Cath Kidston DAB Radio – £200

This Roberts Revival DAB radio is a beautiful Valentine’s gift for the one you love. Covered in Cath Kidston’s ‘Provence’ oilcloth and gold hardware, the Revival is a retro style icon, whose design hasn’t changed since the 1950s. But although the design hasn’t changed, the gadgetry has – inside the vintage case is the latest DAB technology, bringing you a great choice of radio stations and 120 hours battery life. It mixes old school rotary tuning and volume controls with all the convenience of a modern device, including a stereo line in for iPod/MP3 playback and LCD display.

Children’s Christmas Ideas – Sunday 11th December

This week the gorgeous Ruth Jones joined Tim and I to look at some ideas for kids gifts – she was lovely, a really gorgeous lady and it was lovely to meet her – here’s what we had a little look at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKJ-ifTvQ9Q

1. Barbie Design Printables – £30 (age 6 +)

Barbies have been a Christmas stocking mainstay for the past 50 years and this year is no exception. For Christmas 2011, she has been reinvented with printable hair extensions that children can design and print themselves. The hair extensions are stuck onto card that can be fed through an inkjet printer and printed with any design or photo.

Firstly, girls use online software to design the extensions and then print them off. They then brush through the extensions and attach to their hair (or Barbie’s) with a clip. The set comes with 16 hair extensions, 6 funky hair clips and of course a Barbie doll, dressed in pink jeans and a sparkly black top.

2. Ride in Dalek – £200 (age 3-6 years)

Quite possibly the coolest present of 2011, and one that’s bound to make quite an impact on Christmas day, is the Ride-In Dr Who Dalek. The inflatable creature, available in blue or red, comes with 360 degree movement and drives at up to 3 km per hour. It has 10 in-built scary sounds and phrases and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The 128cm tall dalek also comes with a soft bumper to protect furniture from over enthusiastic driving! The toy comes with a 6v rechareable battery and a full charge will last for over an hour of continual use. At £200, it’s a very pricy piece of kit, but your child would be the coolest kid in the playground.

3. Gelarti Gel stickers and studio – £20 (age 5+)

Every girl loves pretty stickers and the Gelarti portable design studio is a funky and much more creative alternative to buying normal stickers. Budding artists simply colour in the sticker sheets with Gelarti paint pens to create beautiful translucent stickers that can be stuck anywhere. Children can use the four included glittery pens and the marbling tool to blend colours together or create beautiful swirls on the stickers. Once painted, they can add 3D accessories and gems, and then leave them to dry before sticking them everywhere!

The Gelarti design studio contains
30+ stickers
4 Gelarti paint pens,
1 double-ended marbling tool,
6 3D accessories,
12 gems, and Activity Book.

4. Angry Birds speakers – £50-£70

Building on the massive success of the Angry Birds franchise, Angry Birds speakers are great for children and adults alike, and are a great idea for older kids that have grown out of toys. Three different speakers are available in the range: Red Bird (£49.99), Black Bird (£69.99) and Helmet Pig (£69.99).

Red Bird is the cheapest and is designed to play music from any smartphone, tablet, mp3 player, or indeed anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack. It comes with a stand to house your chosen music device and is the only choice for those without Apple devices. Black Bird comes with a separate charging dock (shaped like a wall) for iPod, iPhone and iPad, while Helmet Pig can charge iPods and iPhones on top of his head. All three characters come with volume and bass controls.

5. Tomy GX Buggy – £39.99 – fastest buggy in the world (age 8+)

(wasn’t featured due to time)

The Tomy GX Buggy is the fastest acrobatic RC car in the world, capable of speeds up to 22km per hour (a scale speed of 770 km per hour). Each Buggy is equipped with a clear plastic Roll Wing, meaning that it always rights itself after tricks and spins.

This speedy little buggy has a 2.4GHz controller – unlike the usual infra red – so you can jump, flip and roll with up to nine other cars at once, without any signal interference. Its ultra-light 42 gram body is incredibly durable, which is useful when you are planning jumps of up to 85cm high. It takes 20 minutes to fully charge, which gives 10 minutes of continuous race time.

6. One Fine Day Children’s Name Art – £60 (up to 5 letters, £70 (6-11 letters) including frame

This fully personalized children’s name art print is a great gift for a newborn or as a Christening gift, as well as being a beautiful present to adorn a girl’s wall. You can personalize the picture with a baby’s birth weight or child’s date of birth, and choose to have the name depicted in one of five styles (animal, boy thing, fairy girl, mouse and pixie).

Each animal or character represents the letter it depicts, so for example an ‘H’ would have a heroic scene in the ‘Boy thing’ style or a fairy twirling a hula hoop in ‘Fairy Girl’. This gives the added advantage for younger children of teaching them the alphabet.

Each one is a print taken from a hand-painted original, and the company promise to never make more than 250 of each name in each theme – so you won’t see all your kids’ friends with the same design on their walls.

7. Fijit – £54.99 (age 6+)

Fijit Friends are interactive toys that chat, dance, joke and perform, and have been touted as the top gift for Christmas. The toys are made with a durable plastic head, cute removable ears and a squishy rubber shell, allowing them to boogie to the beat of your favourite music. Their bodies and heads turn, bounce and wiggle, and even their LED face and eyes will light up in response to stimuli. The beat sensors recognize what type of music you are playing, so the toys will change their dance depending on whether you are listening to ballads or rock music.

Fijit Friends can recognize 30 words and respond with over 150 built-in phrases and jokes. When you wish them ‘good night’, they will start snoring while their tummies glow softly like nightlights. Fijit Friends come in four different options: Sweetie pie Serafina, Trend-setting Willa, Soprty Logan and Adventurous Sage.

8. Character Building Army Battleship (£49.99) and Tank (£29.99) (for ages 6+)

These Armed Forces construction brick sets are bound to keep kids entertained this Christmas. A great gift for children who want something a bit different to the well-known Danish brand, these sets are more reasonable in price as well.

The Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer is a 516 piece replica set enabling kids to build the largest and most powerful destroyer in the Navy. As well as building the ship itself, complete with rotating gun turret and opening hold doors, you also get a helicopter and five H.M. Armed forces micro-figures.

Or alternatively, why not go for the Challenger 2 construction set, which is a replica of the British Army’s main battle tank. The playset comes with a rotating cannon, opening turret hatches and two micro-figures. With its fully working tank treads this armoured battle tank can handle any rough terrain and move across a variety of surfaces. It even features an opening engine bay with removable engine.

9. Hexbug Nano Elevation Habitat Set – £34.99

Hexbug Nanos are tiny little crawling machines that behave like real bugs. Kids can use the included ramps, bridges and one-way gates to build a habitat on multiple levels, and then watch their Nanos skitter and flip around the environment, racing each other and fighting in the hexagonal stand-off areas. When the kids get bored, they can tear it down and build something new. As they add more pieces to their set, they can make the construction more elaborate, building the habitat higher and higher.

This is the ideal gift for kids that already have some Hexbug Nano creatures, but is also a completely self-contained kit for first-timers. Each Elevation Habitat Set comes with 2 Nano mutations and 52 easy connect pieces, giving kids the freedom to get creative and customize your habitat.

10. Turbospoke – £17.99 (age 8+) (not shown due to time)

Turbospoke is the bicycle “exhaust” system that makes your bike look and sound like a motorcycle. Using only the power of your bike’s pedals, Turbospoke transforms any push bike into a roaring Harley with three different motor sounds (including chopper and dirt bike) and then amplifies them for a realistic rider experience.

The sounds are made by a thin plastic ‘Motocard’ which is held against the spokes of your wheel. The sound then travels up the exhaust pipe, getting even louder. The engine sound starts as soon as the wheels turn, so the sound changes as your speed does, and it gets amplified by the exhaust pipe as you accelerate.

Fitness products as seen on BBC 2 SFTW

Sunday 18th September 2011 -

Well it was time for another appearance on Something for the weekend on BBC 2 – this time to take a look at some fitness related products and as ever silly & fun was the name of the game. Comedian Jason Byrne was on hand along with the show’s Tim Lovejoy to help out….

The first product featured was the Shake Weight – admittedly not new to the market – in fact these ‘unusual’ weights landed in 2009

Shakeweight – £19.99

The Shake Weight shot to fame following a popular South Park’s parody. But despite its sexually suggestive motion that has been ridiculed on both sides of the Atlantic, it continues to be a very popular piece of equipment, particularly amongst women trying to banish the dreaded bingo wings.

The Shake Weight works by a technique called ‘dynamic inertia’. The product contains two spring-like weights at either end of the device. When the Shake Weight is shaken forwards and backwards, these weights create resistance, working both the biceps and triceps at the same time. The manufacturers claim that this movement works your muscles very quickly as the overall range of motion is very small, and say that results are noticeable with only 6 minutes of use per day.

The women’s version weighs 1.2 kg and is designed to tackle bingo wings, while the men’s version weighs a heftier 2.4kg and aims to build a stronger and more defined upper body.

While it has garnered attention for its unusual and suggestive motion, you can feel the burn after a few minutes and its certainly a lot cheaper and easier to use than most gym equipment. It’s a fun piece of kit which undoubtedly doesn’t create the same results as something as expensive and professional as the Power Plate, but it is a potentially useful exercise product for lots of people, particularly those who would never be seen lifting weights in the gym, or those who will only exercise if they can do it while watching TV!

The set comes with an exercise DVD and wallchart, so you can mark your progress. It doesn’t need batteries and is surprisingly lightweight, so is highly portable.

Power plate – £4995

The My7 is the newest in the Power Plate home gym range and the first to feature expert fitness tuition integrated within the console. The machine features an interactive, touch-screen interface with access to more than 250 full body workouts and over 1,000 individual exercises. Accompanying each exercise is a description of the position and a video charting the necessary movements. This allows even the most inexperienced Power Plate user to start working out with ease.

This is also the first Power Plate to include an embedded cable resistance system. These cables (called proMOTION technology by the experts) allow you to work out your upper body more effectively, toning arms and sculpting the chest, abs and back. On lower resistance settings women can tone effectively, while on the higher resistance men can develop more defined and larger muscles. These cables transfer vibrations more effectively, so you can perform a far wider range of dynamic exercises both on and off the platform.

Power Plate technology was originally developed by NASA to counter the decrease in bone density which affected astronauts in space. The technology in the machine works by transferring vibrations through the body, causing the muscles to contract multiple times per second. This intensifies the results of holding a pose or performing a dynamic exercise (such as repetitions of lunges or squats) and so you can achieve faster results in a shorter time. The My7 contains some workouts that are only 10 minutes long, so there is no excuse for not being able to fit it into your schedule. The vibration technology also stimulates lymphatic drainage by increasing circulation, and so helps prevent cellulite.

You can progress from beginner to expert in each workout to keep you motivated and the machine has a USB socket so you can download all the data to your computer. You can also adapt your workouts depending on whether you want to tone, fat burn, build strength or even relax at the end of a session with a muscle massage. You can also set up multiple users, keeping your own progress separated from other family members.

The Power Plate is undeniably a very expensive bit of kit, but so is gym membership. If a couple pay £1000 each for their gym membership per year, plus an additional £50 a go for personal training sessions, the Power Plate could earn its keep in under 2 years.

The Power Plate is used by celebrities and elite athletes, including international rugby teams, Premier League footballers and famous ballet companies. However, it is also used by people with conditions such as MS, osteoporosis and cerebral palsy. The vibration technology has been proven to increase bone density and is very efficient at building muscle strength in people with decreased muscle function.

Note: Do not stand on the machine with your legs straight otherwise the vibrations can travel up to your head and feel uncomfortable. Always have knees bent when standing on it. Tingling in the face is normal and is because of the increased circulation.

MBT Ari shoes – £269 (not featured due to time )

MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology and this principle lies behind all MBT footware. MBT shoes contain a patented Masai Sensor and Balancing Area which induces instability that your body instinctively attempts to correct. This corrective action can help add more movement into everyday life and can also lead to increased muscle activation and can help improve posture and balance

The Ari combines comfort and performance, and its design has even won a coveted Red Dot award for its fusing of form and function. While MBTs always look a bit weird, the Ari (which means ‘Spirit’ in Swahili) is much more attractive than its orthopedic-looking predecessors.

The shoe has a powerful integrated ventilation system that helps keep feet cool and dry. It is built on a contoured last that replicates the shape of a human foot while its biometrically engineered structural pillars offer guidance to the foot during the fall-gait cycle. In addition, Ari’s multi-layered 3D mesh insole is antibacterial, removable and washable, enabling feet to stay cooler and drier throughout exercise. The shoe – MBT’s most technically advanced in its 15 year history – allows an increase in movement and subsequently muscle activation through built-in instability and embodies the spirit and philosophy of the MBT brand.

Brompton Oratory commuting jacket – £250

Brompton’s new Oratory jacket is a unique garment that combines clever cutting, high-tech wearable materials and imaginative detailing to make performance clothing that has the look and feel of classic staple pieces. Produced by the folding bike manufacturer, Brompton’s jacket is designed to be as flexible and multi-functional as its transport solutions. The cord jacket is robust enough for commuting and all day use at work, but could also be worn for more formal occasions.

The two-button cord jacket boasts a wicking bamboo lining designed by Sheffield artist Kid Acne, but it is the jacket’s concealed features rather than its style credentials that really mark it out as an innovative product. The jacket is made of ‘Epic’ permanently weatherproof cotton, meaning you can dispense with a separate waterproof. It features fold down cuffs and a pop up storm collar with reflective panels, as well as ‘pit zips’ for ventilation during the commute. The cuffs are also adjustable and so can be tightened in case of bad weather. Brompton have even adapted the ‘action back’ from shooting jackets to allow the back of the jacket to loosen when hunched over the handlebars, giving more articulation in the arms and shoulders.

It also has useful tech features including a headphones port, cable loops, zip-up pocket perfect for your smartphone, and, most innovatively, an oyster card pocket in the sleeve for easy swiping. As well as the reflective collar and cuffs, the jacket also features a pull out Hi-Viz rear panel, which can be stowed away discreetly within a seam of the jacket during daytime.

HydraCoach Intelligent Water Bottle – £27.99

The HydraCoach Intelligent bottle isn’t just a water bottle, it’s a hydration system designed to monitor your fluid consumption and so prevent you from getting dehydrated, both after sport and throughout the day. It features an on-board computer that continuously tracks your real-time intake of water and reminds you when you need a drink to satisfy your recommended daily intake. The special straw measures how much you have drunk and how close to your target you have become.

The HydraCoach even calculates how much water you should be drinking based on your weight and the duration of your exercise routines, and can be programmed to take into account factors such as altitude, pregnancy and heat.

The clear digital display monitors the total amount of fluid consumed throughout the day, as well as the average amount per hour, and the amount of time elapsed, to encourage proper pacing of water. It compares all of these to your personal hydration goal, so you can stay on top of your water consumption at all times. It measures in metric and imperial formats so you can choose whichever you prefer.

The Echo smartpen only work with Livescribe Dot Paper, not conventional paper, and you can buy notebooks and pads from them in various sizes. But if that all sounds like it might be a bit expensive, you can also print your own dot paper for free on colour laser printers.

Scratch N’ Scroll is a mouse mat that you can make notes on. Write on it using your finger, the included stylus, or any pointed object. Once you have finished with your note, you can erase it by lifting up the semi-transparent paper cover. The mouse mat is compatible with optical and ball mice, and comes with a non-slip base.

Pixelated Mouse - £15

Jazz up your computer with this retro mouse. The Pixelated Hand Mouse works like a normal mouse, with left and right buttons and a scroll-wheel, but looks just like a giant windows icon. What’s not to like?

Is it a catapult, is it a pencil? No, it’s catapencil!

The perfect office toy as well as great mischief-making for the kids (aged 8 and up), the Catapencil is just what you need on your desk to make the day more interesting. Load it up, fire off a balled-up receipt and then carry on writing as if you’ve done nothing wrong.
